Children's Dental Visits
We love seeing children at Oakmont Family Dental and they enjoy their visits! Dr. McLaughlin has 3 children of his own ranging from ages 1-6 and Dr. Andrus has 3-year old twins. Our hygienists and assistants are all mothers, and some are grandmothers, so treating children is like second nature to us.
In a child’s first dental appointment or “happy visit” around age 2-3, your child will get to ride on the dental chair, play with the “squirt gun” water syringe, and the “spit sucker”. Dr. McLaughlin will count the teeth and take a peek inside the mouth to make sure the teeth are coming in normally. Behavior permitting, we may try to polish the teeth with a fun, fruity paste, and finish with a quick fluoride treatment to strengthen your child’s enamel. Parent education will also be given so that you can support us in our efforts to instill healthy habits. We offer incentives and prizes for No Cavity visits!
It is important that this first visit is a positive experience, and ensures that future appointments will go smoothly. We want to instill the importance of proper childrens dental hygiene at an early age, which will lead to a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums!
